Hi, I’m Ke
I’m a psychotherapist who works with adults struggling with depressed mood, anxiety/stress, trauma, self-esteem, burnout, relationship issues, and prolonged or complicated grief. I received my undergraduate degree from University of Pennsylvania and my masters-level training from Columbia University in the City of New York. This means my academic training has been largely at research-heavy institutions that prioritize evidence-based treatments. Evidenced-based treatments (such as cognitive behavioral therapy) are usually aimed at interrupting and changing recurring negative thoughts and behaviors that are occurring in the present moment. You will see this approach manifest in our work together, as I am frequently concerned with what is happening in your life today, and how these issues are impacting you in the here and now.
However, I also believe how we respond and react in the present moment are largely informed by our past experiences, including the environment and context we grew up in. Thus my therapeutic approach also relies on depth-oriented work (e.g. psychodynamic therapy techniques) that can only come from understanding our past and unearthing the more subtle layers of our consciousness. Frequently I find the adult symptoms we are seeing as mental health challenges today where once effective coping mechanisms we learned as a child. Even in my case, understanding my past helps provide context for my present. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in marketing for a decade. My corporate past influences how I show up as a therapist today, as I tend to be quite analytical and detail-oriented in how I approach problems (and sentences!) that clients bring up in the therapy room. My marketing background also means I pay special attention to the recurring stories that clients have grown to believe about themselves, as I have learned the power of a strong narrative.
If I sound like someone you’d want to work with, please schedule a complimentary 20 minute consultation with me. I’d love to hear your story.
